Nintendo Switch to Get OLED Display Model, Says Report

An OLED-sporting version of the Nintendo Switch may be on its way.

According to a report by Bloomsberg, Nintendo is planning to reveal a 7-inch 720p rigid OLED display-equipped model of the Switch sometime this year, with the display being made by Samsung. Additionally, the new model will support 4K when using a TV screen for gaming.

Bloomberg’s sources say that Samsung will kick off mass production of the panels in June, and July will see them being shipped off for assembly. The initial monthly target involves a figure of “just under a million units”. Nintendo apparently hopes that the screen will “prop up demand in time for the holidays”.

Back in October 2020, there were rumours that there would be a Nintendo Switch Pro with a mini-LED display. The current Switch model has a 6.2-inch LCD screen, while the Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch screen.

In February this year, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that the company had no plans to announce a new Switch model anytime soon.
