NetEase Acquires Quantic Dream

Chinese gaming and tech company NetEase has acquired Quantic Dream, the studio behind Detroit: Become Human.

Announced in a statement on NetEase’s official website, it had acquired the French-based studio for an undisclosed amount and became its first studio in Europe.

“We are thrilled to embark on an exciting new stage of growth with Quantic Dream, bound by our shared vision, mutual trust and respect,” William Ding, CEO and Director of NetEase said. This comes after NetEase became a minority stakeholder for Quantic Dreams back in 2019.

The acquisition marks another entry in a long list of gaming studio acquisitions in 2022 alone. Other examples include Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard, Sony buying Destiny 2 developer Bungie and the Embracer Group getting Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal from Square Enix.
