Design

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition comes in a sleek design and to complement this feature, the laptop features Ultra-thin chassis which ensures that you will be able to easily place the laptop in your bag without concerns of it taking much space. As for the cover, the laptop has a Microsoft logo on the centre.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition features dimensions of 329mm x 239mm x 17.5mm which further helps to  showcase its thin design. Asides from that, the laptop is also lightweight, weighing a total of only 1.66kg, and this will allow you to be able to easily carry it wherever you go.

The laptop comes in two different colours for you to choose from, one that’s Black in colour or the one that we received, Platinum. Overall, I feel rather satisfied with the design of the laptop. Although it doesn’t come with any interesting or unique features, I enjoy the simplistic design that it comes in.

Display

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition has a 15-inch display screen with an aspect ratio of 3:2, and this is highly beneficial for those who have to constantly read through documents on a daily basis. Furthermore, you’ll be able to enjoy an immersive viewing experience with this laptop as it comes with Microsoft’s PixelSense Flow™ Display with a contrast ratio of 1300:1 and up to a 120Hz refresh rate! Asides from that, it is also built in with Dolby Vision technology to provide better contrasts and more vivid colours.

Furthermore, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition also comes with a touchscreen feature, as it is built with a 10-point multi-touch glass panel, this will ensure that you will be able to easily swipe through the screen without the use of a mouse.

Audio

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition doesn’t just feature Dolby Vision technology, it also comes with Omnisonic® Speakers powered by Dolby Atmos. This will ensure that you will be able to enjoy crisp and immersive audio for your video conferencing and entertainment even if you forgot your earphones.

Connectivity

In terms of its connectivity, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition offers a limited selection of connection ports for users but still sufficient for remote working purposes. The left side of the laptop features two USB-C ports, one USB-A and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Meanwhile, the right side features a MicroSDXC card reader and a Surface connect port. With the Surface connect port, you’ll be able to use it as a Surface Dock which will allow you to be able to use the laptop as a full desktop PC, providing a more PC-like experience for users.

Performance

Powering this incredible laptop is the Qualcomm Snapdragon® X Elite, with a total of 12 cores internally of up to 3.42GHz. This ensures that the device will be able to carry out high-intensive tasks without dealing with any issues such as lag. Furthermore, the performance of this laptop is said to be 86% faster compared to its predecessor. Asides from that, the laptop also comes with up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM installed and a 256GB Gen 4 SSD for storage space. The SSD is removable, which means that users would be able to upgrade it to have greater storage capacity of up to 1TB.

I also used the Geekbench 6 benchmark test in order to test whether the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition is able to handle demanding and graphically intensive tasks. The results showed that the laptop scored a decent score of 2249 in the Single-core score and 12979 in the Multi-core score.

Besides that, I also used the Cinebench 2024 benchmark test to also measure the system performance of the laptop. In terms of its score, the laptop managed to get a decent score of 103 for its Single-core and a 756 for its Multi-core.

Another benchmark test that I decided to use on this laptop is the Steel Nomad Light benchmark, a benchmark used in order to measure the GPU performance using a non-ray traced game-like workload, and the laptop scored a reasonable 2056 points.

Battery Life

In terms of its battery life, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition ensures that you will be able to last an entire day watching videos or even surfing through the internet as it offers up to 22 hours video playback and up to 15 hours of active web usage, which should easily last for a full day’s work without charging.

To test its battery life, I decided to watch YouTube videos at 1080p for 30 minutes to see how much battery life was consumed. The result showed that after 30 minutes, only 3% of the battery was consumed.

Additionally, the laptop comes with a 65W charger and is able to support fast charging as well, which is extremely useful if you’re in need of your laptop. Furthermore, if you ever misplaced your laptop charger, you don’t have to worry about a thing, as the laptop is able to utilise phone chargers as a backup as the USB-C cable supports Power Delivery.

AI Features

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition comes with several AI features that are set to assist in making your everyday life easier. One of which is the Copilot feature, which acts as your personal AI assistant by your side, by helping you find both answers and inspirations for your work.

Furthermore, the Live Captions feature is also able to automatically translate up to 44 different languages to English! This will allow you to watch streams or shows in different languages and getting captions to understand them!

Besides that, the laptop also features an AI feature that is built into Paint, known as CoCreator. This feature utilises AI to create an image based on what you have drawn and the prompt that you have typed in. With this feature, you’ll be able to easily get a well-detailed image with the help of AI.

Aside from those features, Microsoft also plans on releasing a brand new AI feature to their laptops, known as Recall. With this feature, you’ll be able to easily access your PC’s history in order to search back for documents, emails or even web pages. However, the release of this feature has been delayed for further testing.
