Piranha Games has announced that it is moving the date of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries' Steam and GoG release due to Cyberpunk 2077 being delayed to December 10. It is also delaying the mech-piloting game’s Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC.
These releases have now been moved to Spring 2021, and they will be joined by the release of MechWarrior 5 on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One. Piranha Games says that the idea for a console release came about as they were thinking about delay options. “This will be the first MechWarrior title on a console since 2004's MechAssault 2, and in our opinion, the first true MechWarrior experience ever on a console,” it said in a blog post.
Piranha Games added that the multi-platform release will allow MechWarrior 5 to gain more exposure, and that they will carry out their biggest marketing initiative yet. “This will give us more time to add improvements and quality of life features to the base game, including AI, UI, art, customization, and content,” it said. “We will continue to tune the single player campaign and new career modes, making running your Mercenary Unit the most rewarding experience possible.”
The studio also said that it was in the midst of developing a developer vlog on the game, and that it would be “well on our way towards implementing significant updates” to the PvP MechWarrior Online by the time of MechWarrior 5’s Spring 2021 release.
At the moment, MechWarrior 5 is available on the Epic Games Store, where it was released in December 2019.
