Yesterday, HUAWEI officially announced its most anticipated foldable device - the HUAWEI P50 Pocket - featuring a slim and pocketable form factor. The company has also collaborated with prominent haute couture designer, Iris Van Herpen to design the HUAWEI P50 Pocket Premium Edition.
The HUAWEI P50 Pocket is available in White and Premium Gold in the overseas market. The white variant recreates the beauty of the gemstone with its ultra-thin back while the gold variant is designed by the principle of "symbiosis". The P50 Pocket uses the signature P50 series double-ring design (similar to the P50 Pro). The dual ring houses a camera module and a smart cover screen.
The lightweight device features a 6.9-inch 21:9 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and 442ppi of pixel density. It also supports 1.07 billion colours and covers the DCI-P3 colour gamut. For eye protection, it has 144Hz of high-frequency PWM dimming support.
The foldable adopts a Multi-Dimensional Hinge and Multi-Dimensional Lifting design, which offer a shorter radius and make the device slimmer, while producing a smoother screen when unfolded. The hinge system uses a Zirconium-based liquid metal and a 2,100MPa ultra-high strength steel.
The Ultra Spectrum Camera Matriux module on the rear cover consists of a 40MP True-Chroma camera, a 13MP ultrawide angle camera, a 32MP Ultra Spectrum camera, a 10-channel multi-spectrum sensor, and an ultra spectrum illuminator. Like the P50 series, it also has features like HUAWEI XD Optics, True-Chroma Image Engine, and HUAWEI XD Fusion Pro image engine.
The rear camera can also be used as a selfie camera thanks to its portrait selfie algorithms and the big camera sensor boosts low light performance. For the first time in its device, HUAWEI introduced a sunscreen detection feature that can be accessed via the Mirror app. According to HUAWEI, it visualises the spread of sunscreen on the skin to help users check for uncovered spots and avoid getting sunburnt.
Underneath the hood, it is powered by the Snapdragon 888 4G chipset, paired with 8/12GB of RAM and 256/512GB of storage. Its 4000mAh battery sUPPORTS A 40w HUAWEI SuperCharge.
The HUAWEI P50 Pocket (the white variant) is going on sale in China for 8,988 Yuan (~RM5,922). The Premium Edition (the gold variant) is available at 10,988 Yuan (~RM7,240). HUAWEI has confirmed that there will be a global launch for the device so we'll just have to wait for an official announcement of the release date in Malaysia.
