HONOR Launches HONOR 50 Series, GMS Return Confirmed

HONOR has launched its new HONOR 50 series in China, with the phones set to hit international markets including Malaysia later.


The highlighted phones of the new series are the HONOR 50 and HONOR 50 Pro, which are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G 5G and sport GPU Turbo X and Hunter Boost. The former uses a 75°curved 6.57 inch display while the latter has a 6.72-inch display with a DCI-P3 100% color gamut and 439 PPI. Both have a 120 Hz refresh rate, 300 Hz touch sampling rate, and TÜV Rheinland EyeComfort Display 2.0 certification.


The HONOR 50 Pro features a 12 MP 100° wide angle camera with an 18 mm focal length and a 32 MP camera on its front, with both cameras sporting AI Wide-Angle Smart Switching and Super Night Mode. It also has six multi-lens shooting modes. For the rear, both phones have a 108 MP Main Camera, 8 MP Wide-Angle Camera, 2 MP Macro Camera, and 2 MP Depth Camera.

The HONOR 50 and HONOR 50 Pro pack a 4300 mAh and 4000 mAh battery respectively, with 66 W fast charging for the former and 100 W fast charging for the latter. HONOR says that its internal testing saw the HONOR 50 getting up to 70% of battery life in 20 minutes of charging, while the HONOR 50 Pro can hit up to 90% in that time.

Other features of the phones include Magic UI 4.2, 5G, and Link Turbo. The HONOR 50 Pro has dual VC liquid cooling and high thermal conductivity graphene technology for cooling. The HONOR 50 series features up to three microphones as well.


The HONOR 50 phones come in Frost Crystal, Amber Red, Emerald Green, and Midnight Black, and have a ring design around their camera. The HONOR 50 and HONOR 50 Pro cost RMB2699 (~RM1,737) and RMB3699 (~RM2,380) respectively. HONOR also announced the RMB2399 (~RM1,545) HONOR 50 SE and the RMB469 (~RM302) HONOR Earbuds 2 SE TWS headphones. The HONOR 50 and HONOR 50 Pro went on pre-sale in China on June 16.
