Google Stadia is shutting down on mid-January 2023

All in-game contents and hardwares purchased in Stadia through will be refunded.

Google has announced that they will be shutting down their cloud gaming services known as Stadia, the service will be going down on January 18, 2023.

Google said it will be refund purchases of Stadia hardware including controllers, as well as game content brought through Stadia store. The refunds are expected to be completed by mid-January 2023.

"It hasn't gained the traction with users that we expected so we've made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service," Google vice president Phil Harrison said in a blog post.

Harrison also said that Google will apply Stadia's technology to other parts of Google like YouTube, Google Play, and its AR efforts and the company also plans to make it available to our industry partners, which aligns with where we see the future of gaming headed.

There is rumors about Stadia would shut down after the number of games released to the platform. However, Google insisted that Stadia was not shutting down in a tweet. Even though the company claimed everything was fine and that Stadia wasn't closing as recently as July, the writing has been on the wall for the company ever since. That wasn't true at all, as we now see.
