If you’re one of the 20 million people who’ve played Black Myth: Wukong, there’s a rumor you might want to keep an eye on. Daniel Camilo, who is a Publishing & Gaming Consultant based in Shenzhen, China, claimed that reliable first hand sources indicate that the game could be dropping a DLC around Chinese New Year in 2025 – so either at the end of January or very soon after. However, he expect the DLC might not be as big of a success as the base game. Here are few of his reasons.
First off, while Black Myth: Wukong has sold around 20 million units, a massive chunk of those sales—over 70%—came from China. The game blew up because it’s not only a solid action RPG but also carries a lot of novelty and national pride for Chinese gamers. But when the DLC comes out, that magic might fade a bit, especially for casual players.
Besides, the game is pretty tough. Not everyone who bought it is a hardcore gamer, especially in China, so probably a few million players probably won’t even finish the base game, let alone feel the need to buy a DLC that adds more challenging content. So realistically, he predicts less than 20% of the game’s total user base will end up buying the DLC.
But still gaming timelines aren’t always set in stone as things can always change. Gaming release dates are flexible, and plans can shift, so do take it with a pinch of salt. But for now, if you’re a Wukong fan, mark your calendar around the next Chinese New Year and keep your fingers crossed for an official announcement!
