ASUS Announces Zenfone 8 Series with Snapdragon 888

ASUS has announced the Zenfone 8 series, which includes the “super-compact” 5.9-inch Zenfone 8 and “photography-focused” 6.67-inch Zenfone 8 Flip. Both phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G and sport a Samsung AMOLED display.


The Zenfone 8 series’ displays sport Delta-E <1 color accuracy and DC Dimming technology along with HDR10+ certification. The Zenfone 8 has a 120Hz refresh rate, along with 1000 nits of brightness, a 112% DCI-P3 color gamut, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Meanwhile, the Zenfone 8 Flip offers a notch-free NanoEdge display and a 90Hz refresh rate.

For cameras, the Zenfone 8 has a 64 MP Sony IMX686 main camera with dual-pixel autofocus, optical image stabilization, and high light sensitivity along with an ultrawide 12 MP Sony IMX363 camera. At the front, it has a 12 MP Sony IMX663 punch-hole camera with with dual-pixel autofocus.


On the other hand, the Zenfone 8 Flip comes with a Flip Camera, which is described as a “motorized flip-up module with an evolved triple-camera system”. The phone possesses a Sony IMX686 64 MP high-resolution wide-angle camera with dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus, Quad Bayer, and “enhanced light sensitivity”. The other rear cameras are a Sony IMX363 sensor with up to 4 cm macro photography and a telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and up to 12X total zoom.

Both phones have a 3D curved back, while the Zenfone 8 has a frosted glass coating as well. They come with ZenUI 8, which offers a One-handed Mode to provide users “full and comfortable control using just their thumb”. ZenUI 8 also offers System Mode for managing performance and battery life extension, Smart Key for quick access to “favorite actions”, and AudioWizard. Inside, the Zenfone 8 has a 4,000 mAh battery while the Zenfone 8 Flip has a 5,000mAh battery. ASUS says that both phones have “Advanced battery-care systems” to maximize their battery lifespan.
