Apple Rumoured to Be Testing External Display with A13 Chip

Apple is apparently carrying out internal tests on a new external display that packs a dedicated A13 chip.

The rumour comes from 9to5Mac, which wrote that “According to sources, this display will have an Apple-made SoC, which right now is the A13 Bionic chip — the same one used in the iPhone 11 lineup”. It also reported that the new display, code-named J327, will sport the Neural Engine. The display is expected to be a future replacement for the Pro Display XDR.

Bloomberg previously reported in January that Apple had started early development on an external monitor. However, this monitor was stated to be a “lower-priced” device that would be sold “alongside the Pro Display XDR”.

Currently, the Pro Display XDR is Apple’s first and only monitor since it discontinued the Thunderbolt Display back in 2016. The display costs RM19,999 for the Standard glass version and RM25,999 for the Nano-texture glass version, while the separately sold Pro Stand costs RM4,499.
