AMD has announced its AMD Ryzen PRO 5000 Series Mobile Processors, which are based on the Zen 3 architecture used by Ryzen 5000 desktop processors. The Ryzen PRO 5000 processors are aimed at “premium business laptops”.
The processors in the line up include the 8-core 16-thread AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U, the 6-core 12-thread AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U, and the 4-core 8-thread AMD Ryzen 3 PRO 5450U. AMD says that the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U has 57% higher multi-threaded performance and 23% faster performance for home and office productivity “than the competition”. All of the processors boast “exceptional battery life”.
The core and thread counts of the Ryzen PRO 5000 processors are similar to their Ryzen PRO 4000 series counterparts, but the former have faster clock speeds and double the amount of L3 cache.
The Ryzen PRO 5000 processors feature AMD PRO security, which includes AMD Memory Guard for automatically enabled data and identity protection on Microsoft Secured-Core PCs and AMD Shadow Stack for hardware enabled protection against malware. They also have AMD PRO manageability and AMD PRO business ready.
AMD says that the processors will have “18-months of planned software stability and 24-months of planned availability”. The company expects “broad availability” from HP and Lenovo to begin in Q2 2021.
