Western Digital has launched their new My Passport SSDs, which are said to possess a read speed of up to 1050MB/s and a write speed of up to 1000MB/s.

"The new My Passport SSD delivers the speed, reliability and functionality consumers have come to expect from us," said Western Digital’s vice president of Consumer Solutions Susan Park. "It is a powerful and sophisticated solution for the everyday content creators, curators and hobbyists who need to move files quickly.”

The press release says that 500GB and 1TB variants are now available, with the maximum capacity being 2TB. It features USB 3.2 support, with a USB-C cable and USB-A adapter included. Other features include:

  • Password enabled 256-bit AES hardware encryption to help protect valuable content

  • Shock and vibration resistance and drop resistance up to 6.5 feet (1.98m)

  • Software that makes it easy to back up large files to your drive or a cloud service account.

  • Ready to use out of the box and compatible with Mac and PC

The My Passport SSD is only available in gray at the moment, but there will be blue, red, and gold versions as well. The 500GB version is priced at US$119.99 (~RM501) while the 1TB version is priced at US$189.99 (~RM794). A five-year limited warranty is included with both.

The SSD is said to be already available worldwide at select e-tailers and retailers, although it's uncertain if it's purchasable in Malaysia yet. Just don't be like me and confuse it with the 2017 My Passport SSDs.
