Top-Down Cyberpunk Action Game Glitchpunk Announced

If you’re itching for more cyberpunk action, the upcoming action game Glitchpunk may be worth keeping an eye out for.

Glitchpunk is set in a dystopian future with gangs, cults, and corporations. The player is an android bounty hunter with a “glitch”, allowing them to rebel against their programming. The trailer shows off violent combat and driving, and there will be police chases with 10 wanted levels. Combined with the top-down perspective, it makes the game seem a bit like a cyberpunk take on the old GTA games.

It’s unclear how open the game will be, but four unique locations, including the desert-turned US and a post-nuclear winter Soviet Russia, are promised, with the player being able to take on contracts, earn cash, and upgrade themselves. There also seems to be some degree of choice involved, with the Steam page saying, “Influence whether or not a gang leader stays on top of the food chain, or let heads roll. There might be something more for you to gain than just money: An ally, or a friend? Maybe even a lover.”

Additionally, the game promises themes of transhumanism, xenophobia, and religion. The story will be about “relationship, self-discovery and betrayal”, and will have multiple endings. “The sex and drug infused world of the future raises many questions, only one thing seems certain: humanity is a matter of perspective,” says the Steam page.

Glitchpunk is set to release in Steam Early Access in Q2 2021. A demo will be available during the latest Steam Game Festival in February.
