Narrative adventure game The Lion’s Song is this week’s Epic Games Store free game, with all four episodes up for grabs.
The Lion’s Song follows a different cast of characters across its episodes, with early 20th century Austria as its consistent backdrop. Episode 1 - Silence follows a young musician student who is sent to a cabin in the mountains to regain her writing inspiration, while Episode 2 - Anthology centers on an aspiring painter who can “perceive the flaws, fears and emotions in so-called ‘layers’.
Episode 3 - Derivation sees a mathematician disguising as a man to access a “gentlemen’s club of famous mathematicians” in order to discuss her theory on “change”. Finally, Episode 4 – Closure involves a “mysterious train ride” that revisits the characters in the previous episodes and informs players of their “future destiny”.
“Their lives are being revisited as part of the stories of four men traveling together as strangers on a train, a journey towards an uncertain destiny,” says the game’s store page. “Closure will help you better understand how all individual plots intertwine in the cultural world of early 20th century Austria – an era called Wiener Moderne.”
Each episode of The Lion’s Song will feature choices, which the store page says will directly impact the storylines of the other episodes and “ultimately determine if the protagonists find the success they are working for”.
