Qualcomm Announces First 10Gbps 5G Modem

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System, which is described as the world’s first 10 Gigabit 5G modem and 3GPP release 16 modem-RF system.

In its press release, Qualcomm says that the modem will feature upgradable architecture and “the most comprehensive spectrum aggregation across all key 5G bands and combinations”. Other features include Qualcomm’s QTM545 fourth-gen mmWave antenna module (which supports the new n259 (41 GHz) band), the “world’s first’ AI antenna tuning technology, and the 2.0 versions of Qualcomm’s 5G PowerSave and Smart Transmit.

“Snapdragon X65 is poised to support a new generation of premium smartphones and the expansion of 5G in segments such as PCs, mobile hotspots, industrial IoT, fixed wireless access, and 5G private networks,” wrote Qualcomm.

Aside from the Snapdragon X65, Qualcomm also announced the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System, which has a 4.6 Gbps peak speed.

Both modems are currently in the customer sampling stage, with commercial devices containing the modems expected to be launched by late 2021.
