Christopher Judge, who voiced Kratos in 2018’s God of War, will play the role of T’Challa aka Black Panther in the upcoming War for Wakanda expansion for Marvels’ Avengers.

Judge told Entertainment Weekly that he had initially turned the role down, saying that he “really didn't believe that anyone should ever do T’challa again” following the late Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of the character. “Basically, I wound up doing it because my mother and my children said if I didn't do it, they would disown me," he said.

"To be quite honest, I was fearful of being compared to what Chadwick had so wonderfully done. The only way I could really wrap my head around it was to not even attempt a voice match, to let my performance stand on its own. I put all that into it and hopefully people like it,” Judge added.

EW reported that the expansion’s single-player mission will see T’Challa dealing with Ulysses Klaw, who is hired by A.I.M. to obtain vibranium. The Wakanda of the game meant to ally with the Avengers, but they closed off their borders after the events of A-Day.

The expansion is said to have two “central villains” among its new enemies, and will feature Wakandan supporting characters like the Dora Milaje and a sorcerer called Zawavari. There will also be new locations like Shuri's laboratory and the Wakandan War Room and new Drop Zone and Threat Sector missions.

There will also be notable differences between the expansion’s versions of characters like T’Challa and Klaw compared to their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts. Narrative lead Hannah MacLeod told EW that Klaw has anti-vibranium sonic technology that is also resulting in corrupt vibranium appearing worldwide, and that he has different reason behind his vendetta against the Wakandans than in the comics.

Meanwhile, narrative consultant Evan Narcisse, who wrote the Rise of the Black Panther comics, said that the game’s version of T’Challa was more confident as both the Black Panther and the king of Wakanda and that he “already thinks he has all the answers”. There will also be tension between T’Challa and his sister Shuri “about how best to move Wakanda forward." #blackpanther #mcu
