Facebook is integrating Messenger into Instagram via a new update for Instagram DMs.
The update will result in some of Messenger’s features coming to Instagram. These include vanish mode, selfie stickers, chat colours, forwarding, replies, and animated message effects. Instagram users will also be able to communicate with those on Messenger via messaging or video calls without requiring the latter app.
New privacy settings will let you control who gets to contact you. As an Instagram user, you can decide not to receive messages from those on Facebook, for instance.
CNN says that this cross-communication functionality is “currently being tested in select markets and will expand globally in the coming months”. Plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp integration were first brought up in 2019.
