A few days ago, leaker Jon Prosser tweeted that the Pixel 5a 5G had been cancelled as a result of chip shortages. Now, Google has come forward to say that’s not the case.
In a statement to 9to5Google, a Google spokesperson said, “Pixel 5a 5G is not cancelled. It will be available later this year in the US and Japan and announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced.”
As for the phone’s announcement date (or proper unveiling, since the Google spokesperson’s statement is practically an announcement already), the “announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced” part of the statement indicates that it’ll happen sometime in August, since that was the month in which the Pixel 4a was announced.
In the meantime, you can sink your teeth into some leaked renders and info that leaker Steve Hemmerstofer released in February.
