What to expect this week: A free-to-play online action-RPG, a new entry in a recognizable platformer series, and space battles with X-Wings and TIE fighters.
Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact is a free-to-play online open world action-RPG with hack-and-slash combat and puzzles. Visually, it’s cartoonish in a Breath of the Wild way. You can experience a campaign alone, or team up with up to three other players. There’s also cross-play, so you can play with PS4, iOS, Android, and PC gamers. Even alone, you can fight alongside a party of AI characters, with over 20 characters to choose from. The game is now available and you can download the PC version here.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time
The latest game in the Crash Bandicoot platformer series, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time follows Crash and his sister Coco going after escaped villains Neo Cortex and Dr. N. Tropy, who seek to conquer every dimension in existence. New powers in the form of Quantum Masks are in the game, and players will also be able to play as other characters like Neo Cortex and Dingodile via alternate timeline paths. The game will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on 2 October.
Star Wars: Squadrons
Star Wars: Squadrons is the first Star Wars game to focus solely on space combat in a very long time. Multiplayer consists of 5v5 affairs, whether it’s the straightforward Dogfight mode or the multi-stage Fleet Battles where you have to destroy the enemy capital ship. Regardless of whether you’re a New Republic pilot or an Imperial one, you’ll have a starfighter, bomber, interceptor, and support craft to choose from. As for single player, you’ll experience the perspectives of both the New Republic and the Empire. You can also experience the game in VR on PS4 and PC with crossplay support. Star Wars: Squadrons will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on 2 October.
