[Games Around the Corner] Week 32, 2021 - Supernaturals
This week's games are filled with Supernatural beings. Firstly, there's a young witch who can control demons in Black Book. Next, there's the immortal Prince of the Underworld who wants to escape from his father and king, Hades. For a far less supernatural being, players will possess super-human abilities as they are unlocked from the character's brain implants.
Black Book
Black Book is an adventure card-based RPG set in 19th century rural Eastern Europe. Players will play as Vasilisa - a young witch with the ability to control demons - and must seek a demonic artifact, the Black Book, which has the power to grant a wish to those who uncover all seven of its seals. To find the seals of the Black Book, players need to collect spell cards, solve riddles, and complete quests as they learn about life in the Slavic countryside.
Black Book will be launched on 10 August on Xbox One, Xbox X/S Series, Switch, PS4, PS5, and it will be released on 11 August on Steam.
Foreclosed
"They took everything from me but they left me with nothing to lose." Set in a Cyberpunk world, Foreclosed is a narrative-driven action-shooter game follows the story of Evan Kapnos whose identity is recently foreclosed. Players will take on Evan's character to escape before his identity and brain implants are auctioned off. For attack, players will be able to upgrade their weapons with futuristic customisation and enhance Evan's brain implants to acquire super-human abilities such as telekinesis.
Foreclosed will be available on 12 August on Steam, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox X/S Series.
Hades
Made by Supergiant Games, Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler game in which players assume the role of Zagreus, son of Hades in attempt to escape from his father in the Underworld to Mount Olympus. The game has a hack and slash system with players equipped with a primary weapon, a special attack, and a magic "cast" which can be used for long range attacks.
Players will receive Boons from the Olympians, where the Boons are themed based on the Olympian. Zeus, for instance, will assist players with his lightning damage effects. Besides the Olympians, players will also get help from fellow residents of the Underworld like Sisyphus, Eurydice, and Patroclus. There will be four locations of the Underworld for players to explore, including Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium, and the Temple of Styx.
Hades was first released on PC and Switch on September last year, and it has won "Game of the Year" on several awards ceremonies. Hades will make its PS4, PS5, XBox One, and XBox X/S Series debut on 13 August.
