Cyberpunk 2077 Save Files Get Corrupted if They’re Over 8MB

A new problem has emerged for Cyberpunk 2077, whose reputation was already suffering from the myriad of bugs and pretty bad last-gen performance it launched with.

As reported by Eurogamer, players now have to worry about saves being corrupted and unable to be recovered if the save files' sizes exceed 8MB. The problem was brought up on Reddit and in the CD Projekt Red forums, and it seems to be related to the amount of items present in players’ inventories.

CD Projekt Red is now aware of the issue, but it’s unclear when a fix will arrive. For now, its recommendation is to simply not have too many items and crafting materials. A post on the GOG support section reads, “Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials. If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it. The save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches, but the corrupted files will remain that way.”

The save file issue comes not long after Sony made the notable move of pulling Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation store and allowing players to refund the game. CD Projekt Red is also facing anger from its own staff. According to a report by Bloomberg, the management was asked questions regarding “unrealistic deadlines” and crunch by “frustrated and angry” staff during an internal video meeting last Thursday, with the management also issuing an apology over Cyberpunk 2077’s launch.
