Apple Releases MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 Family

Apple has released a MagSafe battery pack for its iPhone 12 devices. The new product isn’t available for purchase in Malaysia at the time of writing, but it’s listed with a price of RM479.

The MagSafe Battery Pack will be able to provide 5 W charging when on the go. It’s compatible with the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 12, and requires iOS 14.7.

The battery pack attaches to the back of an iPhone and starts charging automatically. The battery pack itself can be charged by pairing a Lightning-to-USB cable with a power adapter that's at least 20 W.

To charge both the battery pack and iPhone at the same time, the MagSafe Battery Pack can be plugged into a 20 W or higher power adapter after being attached to the phone, which allows the MagSafe Battery Pack to charge your iPhone with up to 15 W of charging power. Alternatively, you can plug the iPhone itself into a power source after attaching the battery pack and charge it that way as well.

The power adapter and Lightning Cable are sold separately.

Apple adds that using the MagSafe Battery Pack for charging might result in a notification saying that the iPhone will only charge up to 90%. “To charge past 90%, open Control Center, press and hold the Low Power Mode icon*, then tap Continue,” says Apple.
