Epic Games Store’s latest weekly freebie is yet another sci-fi game. Instead of thrusting yourself into the Star Wars universe or saving mankind in a rogue-lite however, this week’s freebie will have you dealing with the four Xs – explore, expand, exploit, exterminate – in space.
Originally released in 2015, Stardock’s Galactic Civilizations 3 lets you lead either a Human civilization or an alien one, with races including the Drengin and Altarian. The game promises customisation for your faction and ships, a “massive” technology tree, galaxy-wide events, and more. You can play against between 16 and 100 opponents, with a unique “map, worlds, and challenges” promised each game.
EGS’s free giveaway includes the Crusade and Retribution expansions as well as the Mega Events add-on. Crusade introduces espionage, invasions, a civilisation builder for custom factions, Galactic Citizens that can fulfill one of several roles and provide bonuses. Meanwhile, Retribution adds Hypergates, Artifacts, a new tech tree, a Retribution campaign, and supply ships. Both expansions add new factions as well.
