Netflix has revealed the surprising existence of a Dota anime, and even more surprisingly, it’s not far away as it’s premiering on March 25.
Titled DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, the anime will focus on Davion the Dragon Knight, but it also seems that Mirana will be making an appearance. The synopsis (via Crunchyroll) reads, “The sweeping fantasy series tells the story of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.”
Crunchyroll reports that the anime will consist of eight episodes. The Legend of Korra’s Studio MIR is handling the animation production, and the staff includes Voltron: Legendary Defender’s Ryu Ki Hyun as co-executive producer, and Thor’s Ashley Edward Miller as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. The trailer says that the show was made in collaboration with Valve.
Video game adaptations on Netflix aren’t new - we previously had Castlevania and Dragon’s Dogma - but it’s interesting to see a competitive MOBA like Dota getting an anime series. Whether the anime will make for an entertaining watch remains to be seen, but it almost certainly won’t be as stressful as playing the game at least.
